This policy explains what personal information Stadia collects when you read this site or contact us, why we collect it, who processes it on our behalf, and the choices you have. We collect as little as we can: there are no advertising or analytics trackers on this site.
Who we are
Stadia is published by Jean-Blaise Conne Sàrl, Rue du Bourg 10, 1095 Lutry, Switzerland (company identifier CHE-469.842.732). We are responsible for the personal information described in this policy. We process it in line with the Swiss Federal Act on Data Protection and, where it applies to readers in the European Union or European Economic Area, the General Data Protection Regulation.
Ownership and our relationship with the former Stadia Ventures business are set out in Ethics & Disclosures.
Contacting us about privacy
Send privacy questions and requests through our contact page (any enquiry type; mention privacy in your message), or write to us at the postal address above.
What we collect and why
When you use the contact form. We collect your name, email address and message, the enquiry type you choose, and, if you give them, your organisation and a link. We use them only to read and answer your message and to handle any follow-up, such as a correction or a story you have raised with us. You confirm your consent with the checkbox on the form. Messages reach us by email and a copy is kept in the site’s email log.
When you send us a tip. We treat the identity of people who share information with us as confidential. We never name a source without their consent. Please don’t send sensitive documents through the form: we will reply with a safer way to share them.
When you read the site. Like any website, our hosting servers record technical information about each request, such as your IP address, browser type, the page requested and the time. These logs are used to run and secure the site and are not used to build profiles of readers.
Article view counts. To show which articles are most read, the site adds one to an article’s view count when you open it. The count is anonymous: it is a number per article per day and is not linked to you. To avoid counting the same visit twice, your browser keeps a temporary note for the current tab session (session storage, not a cookie), which is removed when you close the tab.
Author photos. Author pages and bylines can show profile photos served by Gravatar, a service run by Automattic. To display them, your browser connects to Gravatar, which receives your IP address and browser information.
Staff accounts. If you have an account to write or edit for Stadia, WordPress stores your account details and sets login cookies while you are signed in.
What we don’t do
- We don’t use advertising, analytics or social media tracking cookies or pixels.
- We don’t sell or rent personal information, or share it for marketing.
- We don’t load fonts or scripts from third-party advertising or tracking services; our fonts are served from our own site.
- We don’t offer reader comments, so we don’t collect comment data.
Cookies and browser storage
- Login cookies (WordPress) are set only for staff who sign in.
- Session storage holds the temporary view-count note described above.
- Offline copy. The site can be installed as an app and keeps a copy of some site files in your browser so pages load faster or offline. This stores the site’s own files, not information about you. You can remove it by clearing the site’s data in your browser.
Because we use no tracking cookies, we don’t show a cookie banner.
Who processes information for us
We use a small number of service providers, who process personal information only to provide their service to us:
- Hosting: WP Engine hosts the site and keeps the server logs.
- Email: Google delivers the emails sent through our contact form (Gmail).
- Profile photos: Automattic’s Gravatar service serves author photos.
These providers may process information outside Switzerland and the European Economic Area, including in the United States.
We may also disclose information where the law requires it, or to protect our rights or the safety of others.
Personal information in our journalism
Our reporting sometimes includes information about people, such as executives, officials or other public figures. We handle it under our Editorial Policy, which covers accuracy, sources, right of reply and corrections.
How long we keep information
We keep contact messages, and their copies in the email log, for as long as we need them to deal with your message and any follow-up, and then delete them. Server logs are kept by our host for a limited period for security and operation. View counts contain no personal information.
Your rights
You can ask us to:
- tell you whether we hold personal information about you and give you a copy;
- correct information that is inaccurate or incomplete;
- delete your information, or restrict how we use it;
- stop using it where we rely on our legitimate interests, or where you withdrew your consent;
- give you the information you provided in a portable format.
Contact us as described above. We will answer within 30 days, and may ask you to confirm your identity first. You can also complain to the Swiss Federal Data Protection and Information Commissioner (FDPIC) or, if you live in the EU or EEA, to your local data protection authority.
Security
The site is served over an encrypted connection (HTTPS), and access to messages and site accounts is limited to the people who need it. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we can’t guarantee absolute security.
Age
Stadia covers the business of betting and gambling and is written for adults. It is not directed at anyone under 18, and we don’t knowingly collect information from children.
Changes to this policy
When we change how we handle personal information, we will update this page and the date at the top.
